Description

  • 20.3 cm, 8 in.
painted on the interior with a scene from The Water Margin narrative, depicting Zhuge Liang conversing with two warriors, Yang Lin and Bai Sheng

Provenance

Sotheby's Hong Kong, 29th October 1991, lot 232 (one of a pair).

Condition

The dish is in overall good condition with expected light surface scratches and original firing flaws including a minute burst air bubble to the rim, minute grits and pinholes. There is some wear to the enamels and a couple of small losses, noticeably a shallow flake (approx. 0.4cm) to the green shawl of one figure, possibly related to a burst bubble, another small gap in the glaze to the yellow robe of another figure. Otherwise, the enamels are generally well preserved.
