Description

  • 18.1 cm, 7 1/8  in.
the exterior painted with four roundels enclosing stylised characters reading shangao shuichang (‘lofty mountains, lengthy river’), interspersed amongst lotus sprays and the bajixiang, the interior with a shou medallion, the base inscribed with a Qianlong bingwu mark (in accordance with 1786)

Condition

There is a approx. 2.5 cm hairline to the rim. Otherwise the dish is in good condition with a very vivid tone of blue.

This dish belongs to a group of distinctive porcelains dated to Qianlong bingwu year (1786), where bowls as well as dishes are known. See a similarly decorated bowl sold at Christie's New York, 21st March 2002, lot 210.
