  • 46 cm, 18 1/8  in.
the baluster body surmounted by a trumpet neck, the body painted with a figural scene set in a pavilion, depicting officials and boys engaging in various activities, the neck decorated with two floral sprays, the base with an artemisia leaf mark

Collection of T.Y. Chao (1912-1999).

Condition

The vase is in good overall condition. There are some expected typical imperfections including a 0.6cm glaze gap on the shoulder, some pinholes and minor discolouration around the footrim. The painting is quite vivid with a very good tone of blue.

A vase of this type, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, is illustrated in Chen Runmin, Qing Shunzhi Kangxi chao qinghua ci [Qing dynasty blue and white porcelain of the Shunzhi and Kangxi periods], Beijing, 2005, pl. 288; and another painted with dignitaries receiving gifts, was sold in these rooms, 29th November 1977, lot 230.
