  • 17.3 cm, 6 3/4  in.
the concave top incised with a flower spray, covered overall save for the flat base in a clear glaze

Provenance

Collection of T.Y. Chao (1912-1999), and thence by descent in the family.

Condition

There are some shallow chips to the edges, widest 1x0.3cm. Some minor glaze firing imperfections.

Similar slip decoration is present on a dish from the collection of Tsuneichi Inoue, sold in our London rooms, 13th May 2015, lot 31. Another Dingyao pillow with incised floral decoration is preserved in the Beijing Palace Museum, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (I), Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 89.
