Condition

The cachepot is in good overall condition. The plaque underneath is slightly warped. There is pitting to the enamels and slight wear to the gilding.

A cachepot with the same design of alterning shou characters and bats is reproduced in Béatrice Quette, Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties Paris, 2011, p. 295. A cachepot with the same red-ground is in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (ref. Rothschild 40), bequeathed by Baroness Salomon de Rothschild to the Museum in 1923.
