Catalogue Note

Compare with a very similar jardiniere of chamfered rectangular form also decorated around the side with foliate bordered panels on a filigree ground, the rim similarly bordered by ruby-coloured glass beads, sold Sotheby's Hong Kong, 26th and 27th October 1993, lot 315. Another jardiniere of this type and possibly from the same series, is illustrated in situ in the Changchung Gong (Palace of Eternal Spring), one of six western palaces in the Forbidden City where the emperor's consorts resided, see Classics of the Forbidden City. Imperial Furniture of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Beiing, 2008, fig. 381.
