Catalogue Note
Les tambours à fente zoomorphes sont le propre de la région du fleuve Uele, dans l’actuelle République Démocratique du Congo. « Prérogative des chefs, ils servaient à transmettre des signaux sur de longues distances dans des circonstances variées» (Afrique. Formes sonores, p. 118). Au sein de ce corpus, ce tambour gugu se distingue par l’élégance de son épure géométrique : de forme prismatique, les extrémités facetées suggérant deux têtes de buffle. Il s’apparente étroitement à un instrument de dimensions similaires, aujourd’hui conservé au musée de la Musique (Paris; inv. n° E.997.10.1), collecté en 1929.
