Excellent condition overall. Extremity of the lance is broken but very well patinated. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture.

Catalogue Note

Culturellement très proche de Tonga, l’île de Niue n'est illustrée que par très peu d'objets dans les musées et les collections privées. Sculptées à la pierre, les prestigieuses lances katoua se distinguent par la beauté de leur forme épurée. A la très grande dimension de cette lance s'ajoute la rareté de son ornementation : la poignée présente en effet un remarquable décor géométrique gravé en pointillé.
