Condition
Excellent condition overall. Very well-preserved green, white and black pigments remain and are visible on the catalogue illustration. Exceptional preservation of the leather handle. Black inscription on the bottom of the handle. Beautiful patina encrusted in the carves places.

Catalogue Note
Apanage du chaman les hochets Janus Tlingit illustre la richesse et le raffinement de l’iconographie des créations de Colombie-Britannique. Sélectionnée par Jacques Kerchache pour son exposition consacrée à La tête en 1966 cette œuvre s’affirme comme l’une des plus aboutie du corpus. Les deux visages sont traités selon les canons classiques de la région mais atteignent un très haut degré d’accomplissement esthétique. A cette qualité technique répondent la délicatesse des motifs peints et les reliquats de pigments qui attestent de l’archaïsme de l’œuvre.
