Catalogue Note

Amalassunta è la nostra luna bella,
garantita d'argento per l'eternità,
personificata in poche parole,
amica di ogni cuore un poco stanca. Osvaldo Licini

Marzio Pinottini, Licini, Torino 1971

"Licini was not an erudite artist, rather he was isolated and grumpy, he preferred to measure himself by way of solitude, communing instead with the sky, the moon. The most insightful outcomes of his research would culminate in his 'Personaggi' (Characters), in his 'Amalassunte', in the blasphemous gesture of the 'Angeli Ribelli' (Rebellious Angels) in which geometry is no more than a memory that is still visible in space, saturated as it is in the iconography of the subconscious's of Klee and Mirò". Marzio Pinottini, Licini, Torino 1971
