Condition

The canvas is not lined and has been strengthened with a wax-like application. Examination under UV light reveals thin lines and spots of retouching, predominately along the extreme edges relating to frame rubbing, a few tiny spots of retouching towards the centre of the sky, some spots of retouching in the river towards the centre of the right edge and an additional spot of retouching in the roof of the left warehouse (approx. 14 cm from lower edge and 27 cm from left edge), related to repaired tear (approx. 6 cm long). There is a diagonal intermittent line of retouching (approx. 14 cm long) to the left part of the lower edge and a few further dots of retouching towards the centre of the left edge. There are lines of stabilised craquelure throughout the sky and additional thin lines of craquelure in places, notably to the left boat. This work is in overall good condition.
