Catalogue Note

Roman portraits of boys wearing a laurel wreath have been compiled by K. Fittschen and P. Zanker, Katalog der römischen Porträts in den Capitolinischen Museen, vol. 4, 2014, p. 41, note 7. The wreath probably alludes to a "private deification" of the individual as the god Apollo. For the rendering of the hair compare a boy’s head, also with laurel wreath, in Copenhagen: F. Johansen, Catalogue Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. Imperial Rome, vol. 2, 1995, p. 56f., no. 16.
