Catalogue Note

Paul-Louis Weiller owned at least two other ancient marbles: a spectacular Dionysiac sarcophagus relief from the Borghese and Émile Zola collections (Sotheby's, New York, December 10th, 2009, no. 42), which he acquired prior to WWII and later presented to French President Paul Reynaud as a gift, and a reclining figure of Ariadne or a nymph bought by him in 1961 (Christie's, Paris, November 28th, 2017, no. 702).
