Condition

The sheet is hinged to the support at two places on reverse of top edge and there are remnants of an old mounting on the reverse. There is minor surface cracking in the darer pigments. Although there are small scuffs and spots of staining, they appear to be original to the artist's technique.

Catalogue Note

This watercolor depicts the big barn at Broad Cove Farm in Cushing, Maine, where the artist would frequently spend afternoons with his father-in-law Merle James. 

This work will be included in Betsy James Wyeth’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work.
