Condition

Overall very good condition. The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Comité Giacometti and it is recorded in the Alberto Giacometti database under number AGD4037; the lamp was additionally impressed AG/21 by the Comité at the time of its authentication. The gilding appears original and presents with a warm golden umber tone as seen in the catalogue illustration, with stronger traces of gilding visible in the recessed portions of the design. The bronze surfaces throughout present with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and gentle handling. The bronze with some occasional minor surface irregularities inherent in the making and not visually detractive, including a very small circular casting flaw just above the point where the three legs separate. The gilding presents with some light wear and has aged and darkened throughout with time. The shade is possibly original and is in very good condition with minor scattered discolorations throughout. The shade with some extremely minor tears throughout and concentrated slightly more to the vertical seam, which could be stabilized if desired. The upper and lower edges of the shade with some small tears, minor associated lifting, and small paper losses, not visually detractive. The lower edge with an area approximately 12 inches with some apparent slight water damage, resulting in losses to the bottom edge border so that the shade detaches from the bottom hoop. The shade is presently stable and could be further stabilized if desired. The shade with some gentle surface undulation likely resulting from its woven construction. With glass diffuser in very good condition.
