Catalogue Note

As a pioneer in reconstruction of Arabic/Persian calligraphy, Zenderoudi produced exceptional works of which this is a beautiful example. The image of the dagger has Islamic connotations, and with all his important early work, this one is also on paper. This seminal early work from the late 1950s demonstrates the transition of Charles Hossein Zenderoudi's practice from figurative to abstract calligraphy.

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Charles Hossein Zenderoudi archives and will be included in the forthcoming Charles Hossein Zenderoudi Catalogue RaisonĂ©e.
