Condition

The canvas has not been lined and is securely attached to a keyed wooden stretcher. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some minor, isolated spots of cosmetic retouching, including: - a few strokes in the sky in the upper right quadrant above the donkey, also visible to the naked eye upon close inspection; - some strokes in the centre of the extreme left framing edge and in the lower left corner; - a small spot in the donkey's leg in the lower left quadrant; and - some minor dabs in the girl's eyebrows and lips. The main composition is virtually untouched. This work presents very well, is overall in good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a white inner slip. Colours are deeper and less saturated in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
