  • oil on canvas
  • 99 by 143cm., 39 by 56in.

Provenance

Princess Marianne of the Netherlands (1810 - 1883; daughter of King Wilhelm I, and founder of the Reinhartshausen Museum in 1856)
A. H. Lester, London
Acquired by the present owners in 2010

Condition

The canvas has not been lined. There are scattered spots of flaking along the lower edge, some of which are also visible in the catalogue illustration, which might benefit from some consolidation. Ultra-violet light reveals intermittent strokes of retouching along the upper, upper-right and upper-left edges, a circa 3cm. minor stroke in the ground in the lower left quadrant, and an area of retouching along the lower edge possibly addressing old flaking. It should be noted the main composition appears to be untouched. This work is otherwise in overall good condition. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
