Description
- Anton Weiss
- Still life with Roses, Tulips and Imperial Fritillary
- signed and dated A. Weiss 1840 lower right
- oil on canvas laid on board
- 91 by 77cm., 35¾ by 30¼in.
Condition
Oil on canvas laid on board, laid on canvas. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout, and some minor frame rubbing is visible along the four extreme framing edges. Some very small spots of paint loss are visible in the upper left corner and in one small spot is visible in the centre of the left edge - however, these appear to be stable. Ultra-violet light reveals a thick layer of varnish which prevents it from fully penetrating and scattered spots of retouching, including:
- some in-painting in the above mentioned craquelure;
- a circa 3 by 3cm area in the rose in the lower right quadrant; and
- some other scattered spots.
Otherwise, this work presents well and is ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
