Lombardi was born in Rezzato, where he attended the School of Design, before becoming a pupil of Lorenzo Vela in Milan, and subsequently moving to Rome to work with Tenerani on funerary monuments, busts and reliefs of religious and classical inspiration.
There is texturing to the surface of the marble throughout, consistent with former placement outdoors. Otherwise the condition is good, with some further wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The proper right forearm is carved separately and slides in at the elbow. There is a loss to the tip of the proper right little finger; this will be restored shortly after the sale by a professional conservator at no cost to the buyer. There are restorations to three of the other fingers on the proper right hand. There is a reattachment or restoration to the toes of the proper left foot. There are a few chips and abrasions, including to the fringe of the veil, around the joint at the arm, and around the bottom edge. There are holes to the base on the left and right side, with some whitish fill.
