Description

  • Prince of Wales Plume Armchair
  • polychrome decorated beech
  • The earlier ebonised armchair circa 1790 and the later example circa 1890.
together with another painted beech armchair in a similar style, but of a later date

Literature

One photographed at Notley Abbey circa 1959.

Condition

These are pretty chairs but will require some workshop attention. They will require new upholstery and fabric as currently these are just frames. The attractive painted decoration is tired with chips, there is some re-touching and some areas of exposed beech where the paint has rubbed. The earlier ebonised example is re-blocked and has wear to the rails and fragmenting from old worm. An elegant pair of chairs which will look great when re-covered and after a bit of TLC.
