the first, maker's mark CS, 1781, on circular base, later decoration, crest and motto, 10cm., 4in. high; the second, maker's mark EW, 1794, square base and helmet shaped, later initials 'WHR', 14.5cm., 5 3/4 in. high; the third, maker's mark WS, 1841, on three feet, with initial 'H' under a marquess's coronet, 10cm., 3 7/8 in. high

Literature

One listed, Notley Abbey Inventory, April 1948, p. 41, silver / dining room, 'A Geo. III 1794 plain shaped cream jug on square base' and probably 'A Geo. III 1761 [sic] embossed bulbous cram jug on 3 scroll feet, 4" high' (The Vivien Leigh Archive, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, THM/433/6/1).

Condition

1. some dents and wear overall commensurate with age and use. 2. some solder repairs at junction of stem and body and inside at initials. some overall wear commensurate with age and use. 3. split to metal by initial and coronet, edge of rim bent, patches of solder repair throughout.
