Description

  • Five Wine Glasses
  • heights: various between 13.3cm., 5 1/4 in. - 16.3cm., 6 3/8 in.
comprising a pair with fluted bowls and opaque-twist stems, a similar smaller example and two glasses with airtwist stems, together with a book on antique table glass by Percy Bate titled English Table Glass, London, 1910 (6)

Literature

Notley Abbey Inventory, April 1948, p. 2, dining room, possibly amongst those listed as 'Four Jacobean wine glasses with thread twist stems' (The Vivien Leigh Archive, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, THM/433/6/1).

Condition

The pair, one with a flat chip and manufacturing flaw to underside of footrim. The one similar with foot re-stuck and associated area of loss to stem, the footrim with chip. The smaller airtwist with wear to underside of foot, the larger airtwist in good condition.
