Condition

The sheet may be slightly discoloured in the sky but is otherwise in good overall condition. FRAME Held under glass in a simple gilt and wooden frame and under glass; unexamined out of frame.

The present lot is an early example by Southall and one of a number of pictures with medieval themes, which show the influence of the artist's visits to Italy and his admiration for the work of fellow Birmingham-born artist Edward Burne-Jones.
