Condition

The canvas has been lined. There are some areas of faint craquelure, notably in the sky in the centre of the compostion. There is a slightly discoloured layer of surface varnish and some specks of surface dirt. There is a small indentation to the canvas near the upper right hand framing edge and another minor indentation with some associated paint loss in the upper left hand quadrant. UV light inspection reveals areas of retouching and infilling throughout the sky with some minor touches to the figure group. There are some further minor touches elsewhere. Held in a decorative gilt frame.
