Description

  • Pair of Blackamoors
  • polychromed wood
  • Italian, Venice, probably 18th century

Condition

Overall, the condition of the wood is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, including to the lower abdomen of one of the blackamoors, and to both of the faces of the figures. Some glue residue is visible around the split at the abdomen. There is evidence of past worming throughout. The polychromy has largely been refreshed. There is some flaking to the paint in areas.
