The panel is flat and ensuring a stable support. It has very scattered small holes on the reverse and on the front, possibly due to woodworm activity which however does not appears to be active. There are a couple of vertical splits running through the upper edge. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of old discoloured varnish which make the surface quite difficult to read, some ring-shaped spots of retouching in the centre of the composition, and a small spot in the background. The picture is ready to hang.
