The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There is some evidence of wear throughout where the ground has become more visible, particularly in the more thinly painted passages. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals strengthening to the dark folds and outlines of both the figures, and a handful of small, scattered retouchings. In overall fair condition. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame with some minor losses.
