There is wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. It appears that a lacquer has been applied to the surface, and there are traces of polychromy underneath. There is some stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, notably an open split to the chest. There is minor evidence of inactive worming. There are a few wood inserts, including one to the proper left side.
