Catalogue Note

These fine candlesticks are typical of Venetian ultilitarian metalwork from the 16th through to the 17th centuries. In form and style they relate to a category of metalwork known as Veneto Saracenic ware and find a fitting comparison in the service with a salver, ewer and eight candlesticks sold in these rooms of 3 December 2014, lot 69 (£122,500 aggregate). For a full discussion on Veneto Saracenic ware refer to the succeeding lot.
