Condition

The canvases have a heavy re-lining, the paint surfaces are relatively clean and the varnishes are slightly discoloured. The dark ground has become visible through the paint in some areas of both paintings, most notably the skies, probably as a result of some wear. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals careful retouchings throughout, to disguise the appearance of the aforementioned wear and craquelure, as well as some more concentrated areas along all four margins in both pictures. Despite the extent of the retouching, the images are bright and readable. Offered in plain painted wood frames in very good condition.
