Description

  • 19cm., 7 1/2 in. and 22cm., 8 5/8 in. high.
modelled as Apollo and Venus seated in an embrace on a pierced rocky mound, a recumbent lamb below them, the base moulded with scrolls edged in gilding, shield mark in underglaze blue, together with a Doccia-style group of Meleager and Atalanta, the wounded hero sat reclining before the head of the Calydon boar, the huntress Atalanta standing above him with a hound at her feet, raised on a rockwork mound base,

Condition

The Vienna group: Some restoration to male figure's left foot, and to the female figure's left arm and right hand, the top of tree stump, and a scroll on the base, minor restoration to applied leaves around the base and minor shallow chip around bottom edge of base. The lamb's ears probably restored. Overall minor wear to gilding. The Doccia-style figure. The female figure's left arm is re-glued but loose. There is an area of restoration on the top edge of the base to the left of her, where an element is possibly missing. The male figure's left thumb is missing, restoration to his index finger.
