- 82cm high., 288cm wide., 47cm deep; 2ft. 8¼in., 9ft. 5 ½in., 1ft. 6½in
the moulded frieze over adjustable open shelves, flanked by flat pilasters on a plinth, originally with doors to the centre
Provenance
Probably Sir John Stuart Hepburn Forbes, 8th Bt. (1804-1866)
Condition
Decorative and functional. Originally conceived with doors to the centre, now with filler to hinge sites, importantly the absence of these doors does not detract. The attractively figured timber has old marks and scratches as well as some chips/losses to veneers on the plinth base notably. The scalloped leather book protectors are distressed as to be expected. A quality piece of furniture that is very functional.
Photographed in the Red Drawing Room at Fettercairn House at the end of the 19th century. For additional images please contact the department on 020 7293 6441.
