Description
- Two gold-mounted simulated cameo brooches, late 18th century
- ivory, shell, gold, wedgwood
oval, one with 'A conquered province', after Wedgwood models, their gold frames chased with scrolling foliage on a matted ground, unmarked, 5cm., 2 in.; an ivory cigarette case, French, circa 1910, rectangular, the lid applied with a jasperware medallion, marcasite frame, hinges and thumbpiece, 8.3cm., 3 1/4 in. wide; and two Wedgwood jasperware medallions, circa 1800, one, oval, with the marriage of Cupid and Psyche 5cm., 2 in. high, the other cut-cornered rectangular, with Mucius Scaevola, 3.5cm., 1 3/8 in. wide, each with impressed signature

The Wedgwood medallions formed part of a group acquired by the 6th Bt. who was a regular customer of Wedgwood. There is a bill from Wedgwood & Bentley, London, 16 September 1778, which lists two examples acquired by him; 'Medal of Roman History, £0-6-0, ditto Three Graces, £0-6-0', NLS (Acc.4796/216)
