Description

gobelet 'litron' et soucoupe, of the third size, painted with vignettes of a traveller before buildings in landscape within gilt cartouche below borders of interlaced meandering gilt demi-flowerheads and swags of flowers, crowned interlaced LL marks in iron-red flanked by date letter AA and decorator’s marks for Chauvaux, Rosset and Grémont

Condition

Both pieces in overall good appearance. To the saucer there is some typical minor rubbing to the gilded border of the medallion consistent with use. The handle of the cup applied at a slight angle and some minute flakes to gilded rim.

Catalogue Note

Jean Chauvaux, jeune (1735-1807?) was a gilder and painter active 1764-1800. Pierre-Joseph Rosset, aîné (1734-1799?) was a painter and gilder active 1753-1799. Étienne-Jean Grémont, fils was a flower-painter active 1769-1781.
