Description

  • gilt-bronze, brass, steel, enamel, glass
  • 27cm. 10½in. high
2¼-inch enamel dial with visible paste-set balance, subsidiary hours, minutes, seconds, lunar date and regulation dials, the fusee movement with cylinder escapement and with finely engraved rear cover, the drum surmounted by and eagle and flanked by sprays of bulrushes, mounted on the back of a boldly cast and finely chased lion

Probably Sir William Forbes, 6th Bt. (1739-1806)

Condition

Dial has minor damage to the edge at top right, otherwise dirty but good condition, minute hand repaired/replaced. Movement is incomplete and not running, fusee chain broken, spring possibly broken. Case in generally good condition retaining the original gilding, bezel hinge damaged and poorly repaired, now loose, rear door lacking. No winder.
