Description

  • Silver, Electroplate, Horn, Ivory
engraved with a crest; together with a George I Scottish silver rat-tail spoon, Charles Dickson, Edinburgh, circa 1720, engraved with a crest and motto; and four further George I rat-tail spoons, Patrick Murray, Edinburgh, 1717, engraved with the initial 'B' (18)

Provenance

Those engraved 'B' probably for Belsches of Invermay or Toft.

Condition

The ladles with clear marks. One a little bent to the handle but otherwise good. The spoons of good gauge with clear marks. Typical surface wear in accordance with age and use.

Catalogue Note

The crest on the spoon by Charles Dickson, depicting a handing holding aloft a mirror, is that of Glendoick. The crest on the sauce ladles is for Forbes of Pitsligo. Probably for Sir William Forbes, 6th Baronet (1739-1806)
