Condition
Him: the canvas has been relined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and slightly uneven. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals little intervention, save for some minor strengthening around the sitter's chin and neckerchief, some wash strengthening in the background, left, and a handful of small areas of retouching in the background, right.
Her: the canvas has been relined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is only slightly discoloured. The impasto is very well-preserved. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very little intervention, save for a short curved line of retouching around the sitter's proper left eye and in her hair, left.
Both canvases are in overall very good condition. Offered in carved and gilt wood frames in very good condition.
