Catalogue Note
This watercolour, which is preserved in very fine condition, appears to date from either Cristall's 1802 or 1803 tour of Wales. On the first sojourn he met John and Cornelius Varley, while on the second he travelled with Cornelius Varley and William Havell. A large pencil drawing by Cornelius Varley depicting Harlech Castle survives in a private collection and is dated August 1802.1
