Condition

The two oils on cooper are in good condition. The surface of the later portrait is a little worn.

Catalogue Note

John Belsches of Invermay was the eldest son of Alexander Belsches and Amelia, daughter of Sir Thomas Murray of Glendoick. He married twice, firstly Mary, the daughter of Daniel Stuart and secondly Margaret, daughter of Sir William Stuart of Castlemilk. A daughter from the second marriage, Emilia Stuart Belsches, acquired the estate of Fettercairn in circa 1777.
