Description

  • netsuke 3cm. high; 1in. and plaque 11cm. by 8.3cm.; 4¼in. by 3¼in.
in the form of a shishi, unsigned together with a painted Persian miniature on ivory depicting a scene outside the city gates, Iran, the reverse signed in pencil and possibly by Hossein Behzad (1894-1964)

Provenance

George Forbes visited the Middle East at various times in his life and went to Japan in 1875.

Condition

Netsuke - rubbing to carved detail, ingrained dirt and old marks. Plaque - minor losses to paint an slightly warped.
