Description

  • Walnut marquetry, oak, brass, steel, glass
  • 233cm. 7ft. 7¾in. high
11-inch dial with floral winged cherub spandrels, signed Dan Quare, London, matted centre with decorated seconds dial and date aperture, ringed winding holes, the movement with five knopped and ringed pillars, anchor escapement, internal locking plate striking on a bell, the later associated case with caddy cresting, moulded cornice and brass-capped hood pilasters, the trunk door inlaid with panels of bird and flower marquetry and inset with a lenticle, the ides divided into panels with boxwood stringing, the plinth and base with similar marquetry 

Condition

PROSPECTIVE PURCHASERS SHOULD INSPECT IN PERSON. Dial is dirty, silvering to rings rubbed, hour and minute hands replaced, seconds hand lacking. Movement is complete but very dirty and will require complete service and overhaul, escape wheel replaced but otherwise appears to retain the original wheelwork, bell stand bent and loose, bell damaged with a piece missing. Later associated case in distressed condition with finials and blocks lacking from top of hood, frieze fret blocked, side frets badly damaged/missing, caps to right rear pilasters lacking, the whole covered with a thick layer of distressed varnish, base possibly replaced. With pendulum, 2 brass-cased weights, no winder or case key.
