Catalogue Note

Four volumes of beautifully engraved plates after Raphael. The first work, recording Raphael's designs ornamental plaster work in the Vatican Loggia, is dedicated to Camillo Massimo, which suggests a publication date before his death in 1677. The second work contains Raphael's biblical paintings in the Second Loggia of the Vatican Palace, which were executed in 1518-1519. The artists Cesare Fantetti and Pietro Aquila made the drawings after the original murals, and they occupy the same frames as the original murals, whether hexagonal, rectangular, or with the upper line slightly arching.
