Condition

The following condition report is provided by Henry Gentle who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The panel support is of oak and is bevelled to the reverse; there is a visible diagonal split across the panel with minor paint loss along it. The paint layer , overall, is well preserved and stable. Natural original sketchiness to the background has been strengthened. Minor scattered paint loss can be detected across the surface. The varnish is discoloured and opaque. Overall, the painting is in a good state of preservation.
