Condition

Overall the condition of the ivory is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is stable splitting to the ivory consistent with the material and age, in particular two splits to the sides of the bowl, and some further splits to the interior of the bowl at the base. There is a small dark hole here. There are further very minor stable splits which have darkened with age, particularly in the foot. The final top section of finial is associated. There are minor dirt and scuff marks to the surface. There is a small gilt metal hook to the underside of the lid. There appears to be a restored break above the globe at the base of the lower section of finial. There are stable splits to the stem of the globe. There are dark dirt residues particularly to the globe and reddish residues to under the foot.
