Oblong 4to (243 x 313mm.), 24 ALBUMEN PRINTS (250 x 202mm., or the reverse), mounted on thick card, recto only, all but one with the photographer's blindstamp in the image, most with negative number and caption in the image, some with pencil captions on the mount, contemporary red half roan gilt, upper cover lettered in gilt "T. & E.A.W." (see provenance), spotting and dust-staining, some fading and occasional abrasions to images, upper cover detached, lacking backstrip, binding slightly worn

Provenance

Given as a wedding present in 1895 to Tom and Edith A. Whittle (of Felixstowe, Suffolk) by Edith's brother Hugh Thompson who had emigrated to Australia in April 1889 (additional information available); thence by family descent to the present owner.

A good collection of views taken in and around Sydney (the harbour, botanical garden, street scenes), together with a two portraits of Aboriginal people, and an indigenous group performing on a beach (Bondi?), and some natural history subjects.
