A RARE SERIES OF PLATES, comprising eleven of the twelve issued in book form. The work was not present in the Atabey or Blackmer collections, and only two complete copies are recorded sold at auction in ABPC in the last forty years, both sold in these rooms (2010 and 1988).

Cartwright (1789-1829), was Paymaster General of the British forces in Corfu from 1816-1820 and a noted marine artist. His long stay in the Ionian Islands and frequent visits to Greece gave him the opportunity to produce a large number of paintings. In addition to this work he also illustrated Views in the Ionian Islands, 1821, an equally rare work.
