Catalogue Note

One of the finest large-scale maps ever produced, illustrating the artistic and geographical skill of eighteenth-century French cartography.

"For the edition of 1708 all four continents were redrawn in greater detail, the Lahontan channel more specifically defined with an explanatory note and the Mer D'Ouest much reduced size. The title dedication is now to the Abbé Bignon with a reference to the projection of M. de la Hyre" (Shirley).
