Catalogue Note

UNCOMMON. 'AN IMPORTANT SOURCE FOR THE BATTLE OF LEPANTO. Contarini wrote a detailed account of the battle, including the events leading up to it. He included many interesting statistics: the sources of the various ships, numbers of men taking part, etc. ... The text of this issue [printed the same year as the first] has been completely reset, with the errata corrected, and a map has been inserted ... it depicts the entrance to the Gulf of Lepanto with the islands of Cephalonia, Ithaca and Santa Maura and the position of the Venetian and allied fleet' (Ioannou).
