Catalogue Note

William Colbeck (1871-1930) captained the Morning, which in 1902 was sent to relieve Scott's Discovery expedition. The Morning provided supplies that enabled the Discovery to remain in the Antarctic for an additional year. In 1903 she was joined by the Terra Nova and returned to McMurdo Sound in January 1904 - as described in this letter - to blast the Discovery free from the ice.
